How the Institute is Funded

E-mail Print PDF
The institute is supported by gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations; income from endowment funds; and funds from Southern Illinois University and the State of Illinois.

Support from individuals comes in many forms:

Immediate gifts - such as cash, securities and real estate. These gifts are convenient and provide immediate funds for the Institute.

Planned gifts - through wills, trusts and annuities. These gifts are popular among donors because you are able to support the Institute while preserving your financial resources for the immediate future, for your lifetime or for a child's future.

A bequest is the easiest and most popular form of planned giving because it is made by simply adding language in your will or living trust. A bequest can be for a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, property or securities, or the balance of your estate after providing for your loved ones.

Annuities and trusts offer more diversity in planned giving as well as potential tax incentives that you can receive now. Depending on the annuity or trust you choose, these type of planned gifts enable you to arrange for a secure financial future for you or a loved one while supporting the institute.
